I concur with all previous posts!

Fortunately the External Quality Assurance guy from the awarding body our college works with has both feet firmly planted in the real world. As for OFSTED, you may get somebody who is an OFSTED inspector, never having worked in the industry or taught in any capacity which I find very worrying as I have seen many teaching staff get assessed as 'Unsatisfactory' yet they know how t get the best out of people.

BTW, I'm currently assessing MME, ETS and fabrication and welding! Baboon21, could I ask which part of the country you are from please? Cheers me old china

As for stroppy apprentices, you should treat them like you'd treat a new car. Only thrash occasionally and when nobody is looking! LOL!

Just to the south of Leeds. I choose not to join the Ofsted debate, other than to agree with you, and my 2 EV's are brilliant, well almost.

You are right, they need the NVQ to complete, in their eyes it is triviality.

We have had some people pass through under our care in this way. Knocking the sharp edges off and smoothing out the attitudes using crusty old Line and Base Maint engineers usually ends up with ideal apprentices.

Highly academic students are a challenge, let's just say that we hope they make the distance.

Sounds like BA who now operated directly with SEMTA (who have located 2 personnel on site). NVQ's have been a big issue there in the past since reintroducing the scheme and they were looking to try and iron it out.

I was at BA until August and loved it. If I could find a way back, I'd be there like a shot.

    Hi All,

Not sure where to post this question, so thought I would try and rekindle this one.

I've just got myself a Job working the line at Heathrow airport. I begin that soon. I want to complete my NVQ level 3 and obviously I need to get in touch with an NVQ assessor to do that. Is anyone available/ know of someone that can help?

I've researched a little in to it and so far my interpretation is that they are only being offered with apprenticeships. Why not a stand alone qualification? I have a level 3 diploma in aircraft maintenance, I just want to tick all the boxes and complete the vocational side of things now.

    Any help would be appreciated.
