BREAKING: Injuries reported after Laudamotion aborted takeoff

Eight passengers have been injured during evacuation after a Laudamotion Airbus A320-200 aborted takeoff from London Stansted Airport because of engine problems.

The CFM56-powered A320, registered OE-LOA (serial number 3147), was operating as flight OE327 from Stansted to Vienna when the incident happened at around 2000 local time on March 1.

“The crew of OE [Laudamotion] flight from Stansted to Vienna decided to abort the takeoff due to engine issues and to disembark the passengers on the runway as a precautionary measure,” Austrian LCC Laudamotion said, in a statement issued via social media site Twitter.

One of the passengers, Toni Barta, posted to Twitter saying there was a “big bang and flames on engine.”

Eight people were injured during the evacuation, with two requiring hospital treatment.

The UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has sent a team to Stansted to investigate.

Stansted Airport said it had suspended flights “following an aborted takeoff due to a suspected engine problem.”

“Emergency services attended and all passengers were evacuated from the aircraft,” Stansted said.

The aircraft was removed from the runway and returned to stand for inspection, allowing the airport to reopen at 2230 local time.
