    Default Extinction Rebellion

BBC News; Wednesday 17 April 2019
Extinction Rebellion London activists chained to Jeremy Corbyn's home

Climate change activists glued themselves to a train and others chained themselves to Jeremy Corbyn's home in a third day of protests.

Extinction Rebellion protesters have been blocking traffic at Marble Arch, Waterloo Bridge, Parliament Square and Oxford Circus since Monday.

Earlier, three activists were glued to a Docklands Light Railway (DLR) train at Canary Wharf, causing minor delays.

Four people also glued themselves together at the Labour leader's home.

Extinction Rebellion targeted the DLR after members changed their minds about disrupting the Tube network.

It came after BTP ordered Transport for London (TfL) to switch off wifi at Tube stations to deter protests.

The campaigner who glued himself to a train window was removed about an hour after the start of the DLR protest, at about 10:50.

The man and a woman who unfurled a banner and glued themselves to the top of the train's carriage were also later removed and carried off by officers.

BTP said three people had been arrested for obstructing the railway.

As of 17:00 BST, 340 people have been arrested since Monday over the protests, the Met Police said.

NS Comment: We can't even agree on our political future regarding Brexit, yet these climate protesters seem to think Britain has to take the lead in this global activity.

The irony is that Britain has taken the lead. Our CO2 emissions have reduced drastically.
We started the industrial revolution so its only right that we lead the clean air campaign. Be proud. we are doing something right for a change.

These people should be protesting in countries that are serious polluters, but I guess they'll be dealt with rather more harshly than here.
What we do in the UK is a mere pinprick in terms of the world. From what I've read their demands are impossible to meet anyway.

Greta Thunberg: Teen activist says UK is 'irresponsible' on climate

Teenage activist Greta Thunberg has described the UK's response to climate change as "beyond absurd".

In a speech to MPs, the Swedish 16-year-old criticised the UK for supporting new exploitation of fossil fuels and exaggerating cuts to carbon emissions.

She was invited to Westminster after inspiring the school climate strikes movement.

Environment Secretary Michael Gove said "we have not done nearly enough".

In her speech in Parliament on Tuesday, Miss Thunberg said the UK was supporting shale gas fracking, greater exploitation of North Sea oil and gas fields and expanding airports.

"This ongoing irresponsible behaviour will no doubt be remembered in history as one of the greatest failures of humankind," she said.

She also described the UK's carbon emissions reduction as the result of "very creative" accounting.

The country's reported 37% reduction in emissions since 1990 was only 10% when aviation, shipping, imports and exports were counted, she said.

NS Comment: Greta got some good listening to by the politicians on Tuesday, 23-April-2019.
She even blew away Hugh Jampton's argument about how well UK was doing.

Woah there buddy. Not my argument. I just read some facts and posted.

How she can blame aviation on any of this is nuts. Globally it accounts for about 2%. Tiny compared to other sectors. It may well be growing but even if it doubles its still a tiny percentage. We could stop all aircraft flying in and out of the UK and it wouldn't even make a dent.

Shipping accounts for more than aviation but no one seems bothered about that. When was the last time you saw protesters glued to a ships anchor chain to stop it leaving port? (have to be bonkers or stupid to be honest).

What a horrible piece of garbage. The girl has aspergers but he still thinks its ok to attack her 'monotone voice'. She is trying to do something positive, but he attacks her for 'being cultish'.

I haven't seen Spiked before, I won't be reading it again.

    They have an agenda.

    From Wiki

Environmentalists such as George Monbiot[22][14] and Peter Melchett have suggested that the group of writers associated with LM, several of whom went on to form the core editorial group at Spiked, continue to constitute a 'LM Network' pursuing an ideologically motivated 'anti-environmentalist' agenda under the guise of promoting Humanism.[23][24] Writers who used to write for Living Marxism reject this as a 'McCarthyite' conspiracy theory.[25] Monbiot described their views as having, "less in common with the left than with the fanatical right."[26]

    Greta Thunberg's zero carbon journey

Climate change activist Greta Thunberg will travel to New York on a boat with very few home comforts after stopping flying due to environmental reasons.
    Full Report: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episod...carbon-journey

NS Comment: Greta Thunberg is on her way to address world leaders in New York. Crossing the Atlantic in a zero-carbon boat will take her 2 weeks, braving the elements and having no mod cons. Not even a flushing loo.
