In a Mother’s Day miracle, a Myanmar National Airlines passenger jet landed safely Sunday at Mandalay International Airport without its front wheels.
The captain aboard the plane, which was carrying 82 passengers and seven crew members, discovered that the front landing gear had failed to deploy after a notification from the Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System, the airline said in a statement online. The backup emergency procedure also failed to pull down the wheels.
At that point, the captain dumped fuel to reduce the landing weight and made an emergency touchdown in Mandalay around 9 a.m. local time.
Video of the makeshift landing shows the plane gliding onto the runway on its back wheels before the nose tips forward, scraping along the ground.
Everyone on board was evacuated safely and uninjured.
