Existing B2+B1.3 +C with several types

Stupidly accepted the 'great idea' to add B1.1: So completed the required modules, completed an approved dual B1/B2 Pt147 type course, added the B2 to my licence without issue. Spent the last 18-24 months or so getting stuck into gaining suitable B1 experience and compiling sufficient evidence to submit to the CAA.

So I submit my application pack-up.

CAA just written back indicating that they want to conduct an oral board via Skype before they complete the application - yikes its been quite a while for one of these things, anyone else had to go through this recently? Or anyone had to have an oral board when they are applying for the basic licence and 1st type?

Is this a post Brexit/CV19/ going back to BCAR thing ?

My impressions of the CAA over the last 18 months or so since Janet Cook left have deteriorated significantly, they really don't seem to know what s going on - is it just me, or have other guys & gals had similar experiences?

Sounds like a post-Brexit return to the good old days. Using Skype for the oral exam could be a COVID-19 solution, but could save long travels and maybe hotel stay when things return to normal.

But I would miss my beloved circuit drawings over Skype...

Nothing new, happens all the time for aircraft Groups 2a,2b,2c, & 3 type ratings. It's the 'Type Examination' as listed in the GM 66.A.45 Table, The ones I've done have always been face to face so Skype must be Covid 19 related.

The info I have found in the various CAA documents don't indicate that this standard so I've obviously missed and it did nt happen when I added my 1st type to my B1-3 but things will inevitably change over time.

Interestingly Blufin for the list you mention did you also complete a Pt 147 type course and then have a board for each type rating?

If your 1st B1.3 was a group 1 then it would have been done by OJT, just a thought

yeah you are right, cheers Blufin (I did have OJT with this type rating ) but things are obviously changing. I just wish the ivory towers would be clearer in the guidance material they provide, rather than the subjective 'open to interpretation bumf they currently provide - it gives them more wriggle room
