    Post ELT Programming

    Gents,
    When you replace ELT P/N:95N6088 on B737/5CL with a new one from the store, do you need to program it to the new aircraft registration? Or the ELT base installed in the aircraft will automatically do the programming?

    Hi Beta,
    ELTs come with the ICAO standard of transmission on 406 MHz. Some countries, e.g. Canada, also favour 121.5 MHz. There is no field program required. The brands I dealt with had a self-test feature which avoided transmitting out in order not to alarm ATC and other aircraft.

    I have received from our logistics supplier that for the ELT to be fully operational it needs to be programmed to match the aircraft registration! AMM doesn’t say anything related to this!

    I wonder if they mean the Selective Calling, SELCAL, system where each aircraft has a specific code assigned.
