    i remember seeing it on its final flight in 1993 when it overflew where i was working in the RAF

    Seven in all, I was on Harriers during the Falklands but remember the Vulcan with affection as it was the first aircraft I worked on when I came out of trade training at RAF Halton.

    If you've read the book Vulcan 607 it gives an excellent account of the final Black Buck operation and that contrary to popular belief it did result in a direct hit on the runway at Port Stanley.

    Bearing in mind what limited technology they had available for navigation and the challenges that in-flight refuelling presented it's a miracle they made it at all.

    Those guys involved showed true guts and determination.
    Old age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill.
