A CAA Duplicate Inspection (that can be completed by the same person) is not the same as an EASA Independant Inspection (that cannot be completed by the same person) If your company still has CAA BCAR Maintenance Approvals your MOE probably can say that you can complete the second part of the Duplicate Inspection after a suitable period of absence - it's not a joke.

Er, the original Dupe, created by the UK CAA, required two separate licensed engineers. This era of independent mish-mash has come via EASA and (maybe)the FAA.

Actually theres no confusion on this issue, under Part 145 duplicate or independant inspections are not always mandatory.
    EASA Part M (M.A.402(a)) states:
All maintenance shall be performed by qualified personnel, following the methods, techniques, standards and instructions specified in the M.A.401 maintenance data. Furthermore, an independent inspection shall be carried out after any flight safety sensitive maintenance task unless otherwise specified by Part-145 or agreed by the competent authority.
If you have a look at the relevant setion of Part-145 (Part 145.A.65(3)), it says...
With regard to aircraft line and base maintenance, the organisation shall establish procedures to minimise the risk of multiple errors and capture errors on critical systems, and to ensure that no person is required to carry out and inspect in relation to a maintenance task involving some element of disassembly/reassembly of several components of the same type fitted to more than one system on the same aircraft during a particular maintenance
check. However, when only one person is available to carry out these tasks then the organisation's work card or worksheet shall include an additional stage for re-inspection of the work by this person after completion
    of all the same tasks.
I realise the ratio of my 'piss-take to serious' posts means that much of what I say on here will be assumed to be horse shit, but occasionally I like to muddy the waters by throwing in an odd fact just to see who knows their stuff, in this case I'm glad to see nobody does....
    Apologies accepted......

Ugh, Billy. That's old hat. We already established the mish-mash nature of the "Independent Inspection" scam, including who can perform the second part..

My previous post was to highlight the crisp, distinct nature of the original, unadulterated duplicate inspection...

Folks and their MOE's should be making a clear distinction between the two systems.

Theres no mish mash, the UK CAA is dead, we all now certify in accordance with EASA legislation and it clearly allows for individuals to sign the inital and second part of a critical inspection. In my company we quite often work alone and when I pointed out that our MOE allows us to do this (because Part-145 allows it) many people (although not you in fairness) assumed I was taking the piss.....
If you read the relevant sections you'll see they don't use the phrases independent or duplicate when refering to these 'critical' inspections.

Under the old system a 'critical inspection' was where your old supervisor came over and said "that wirelocking is shit, do it again"..... (now I'm taking the piss again)
