Thumbs down Recession arrives in Aberdeen

So its here. Heli-one says goodbye to all its contractors and it seems the permys are going to be stood around with nothing to do.

Just wondering if any body else is seeing the effects of the recession in the heli industry.

Maybe its all hyped up and its just actually a quiet spot in the year.

I think you'll find there isn't a 'quiet spot in the year' in the offshore oil and gas industry!

This is primarily down to the price of a barrel of oil, due to the price dropping over the last few months there is a surplus of oil already pumped and in storage.

For the price to start rising again there needs to be less available oil this is achieved by reducing the amount the rigs are pumping out. Once supplies start to dwindle the cost of a barrel will rise again and the oil companies will start production again.

Give it a couple of months and things will start to pick up again.

Yeah, that's what we all though in 92, just before the ba5tards showed 40 of us the door!

The north sea is cyclic boom, bust boom, bust and with the North Americans running the show these days you'll be out even quicker as they slash their costs to maintain their profits, especially those t0ssers at CHC.

Oh, and still bitter 16 years later? Nah, don't be daft.
    All gassed up!

So is everybody hot footing across to the other side of the airfield ? Are Bond immune to the man power cuts ? and more importantly are they hiring ?

A high oil price may well be good for the helicopter industry, but it would be very bad news for the fixed wing industry....

Heli-one is finished, or contracting at Heli-one is finished?
