Sorry but this reply not meant to be terse. Surely this shows the state of the industry today. Here we have a guy studying to be a B2 licence holder and sign off aircraft and people entrust thier lives on his work, ok he is hobby trades (Lazyonics) and will be entrusted to the best seat in the crew room and playing games all day on the comp inter twisted with visits to the internet for some shopping. However one of the basics he has not grasped ie how do I document my tasks and work history.
Is this his fault or the fault of his training dept/school. Shows the depths we have sunk to.
By the way try the CAA website and look for CAP741 or go to ALAE website and JOIN then get their very good log book, the latter is what you should be doing.
Off to wash my hands now after another nappy change.

Try CAA CAP741 , from memory . It's their recommendation , obviously but I do know several engineers who have converted that format into excel for ease of recording etc.

If you look at the format of the CAP741 and make your own version of it on a spreadsheet, A4 or A5 sized in landscape. There isn't a definitive layout, just make sure there's enough space for a decent description of the job....made tea.....sat on arse.....the usual gayvionical stuff!!

Once you've done that get a ring binder and some teddy-bears arseholes to strengthen the holes, your book will take a lot of abuse.

The only problem I found with the CAA publication was the cost of it and the price of the refills.

Good luck!

You might find it here if you look a little.

The UK CAA will accept almost any format Log Book as long as it meets the correct criteria like correctly laid out and oversigned e.g. similar to CAP 741.

Half the problem, there is no 'criteria'.

You are correct though.

May I suggest that you add a 'Master Signature Sheet' at the front of your Log Book? This has been omitted from CAP741 and makes the CAA's job of reviewing these items a lot easier (read: quicker and easier).

The master signature sheet should show name/approval number/CAA license number/signature. Many oversigs in the workplace tend to only show approval number, this is incorrect (to the letter of the unwritten law) and should really show license number so the CAA can check validity of the oversignature for the task.

Another thing is completing the Log Book task pages using ATA iSpec2200 format or one chapter per page(s) sequentially. This also allows faster reviewing and therefore quicker to get back to you.

You have a long way to go with your career, try to keep your log book in date and it will pay off in the end.

I have a log book from some CAA recommended stationer, but what i really want, really really want, (and its not a zig a zig ah) is a PDF version (or similiar) so i can computerise it all to get more info on the page, and to help avoid my embarrasingly crap handwriting. Does anyone have a version of this that they could E mail me? I would be most grateful!
